well, it’s already been announced (via Facebook and NXNE.com, as well as constantly appearing in NOW), but I thought I’d give you some more info on our 2011 NXNE Showcase happening Saturday June 18, which is definitely one of the best shows we’ve ever put together, full of extremely famous bands. it is truly The Best Damn Thing.

we’ve chosen to hold our “official” NXNE show at a very “unofficial” type of place. a place where most of the bookings consist of Yoga classes, kids’ math after-school seshes, and vegan BBQs…
918 Bathurst is a buddhist temple just north of Bloor st, which has been re-purposed into an arts space and community centre over the past year or so.
they have a gigantic main room with the best acoustics I’ve ever heard, and several smaller rooms located around and below. we’ve decided to hold our show in the basement, due partially to our love of the combination of loud noises and small spaces, but also due to the fact that next door is an old folks home, and having AIDS Wolf playing at ground level at 1am is probably not the BEST idea if we want to avoid ambulances showing up.

SO: all the bands on our showcase are ridiculously famous now, so I don’t need to explain to you who they are. I’ll let Google do the talking.

here’s the first thing Google has to say about Doldrums, performing at 9pm (this is my brother Airick by the way):
“The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), known by sailors as The [sic] Doldrums, is the area encircling the earth near the equator where winds originating in the northern and southern hemispheres come together.” – wikipedia

Prince Rama (brooklyn), 12am:
“Brooklyn/Boston-based three piece Prince Rama make psych music. Deep psych music. This isn’t folk with a few tribal drums … There’s sanskrit chants. Zonked synths. And, yes, more than a few tribal drums” – pitchfork

AIDS Wolf (montreal), 1am:
“According to singer Special Deluxe, the name “AIDS Wolf” comes from an urban legend wherein wolves carry AIDS and pass it to house pets who then pass it on to people” – wikipedia
so, to sum it all up, Wikipedia and Pitchfork are two popular websites.
now, I’ve mentioned this before, but this is the last Snakes + Ladders show for a while, as I’m getting back to actually playing music, which is what I really love doing. more on that soon!

It’d be cool if you could use a pic of us that shows the actual , current line-up of the band. That photo is from 2004 , 2 of those pictured haven’t been in the band in 4+ years(there have been 3 line-up changes since) and we are now a trio.
I believe we supplied several recent pics to NXNE. There are also some on our website.
Thanks
AW
guh, yes of course!
[...] you didn’t think we were just gonna do one NXNE show did [...]
AIDS Wolf broke two of my PA speakers. Just saying.
